Inside Menkaure's Pyramid
Items: 3
Kills: 13
Now that you're Inside Menkaure's Pyramid you'll find that progress is fairly straightforward, but there are a few sticky bits, so here're a few hints to get you unstuck.
Twinkle Twinkle
After an mildly intimidating start of a corridor with a couple of swinging blades, you'll get to a set of stairs. Don't drop onto the stairs, but take the long way around. Sure, you'd probably miss the silly little star mounted high up in a shaft in the ceiling, but Lara wouldn't. Of course you can't reach it, and you know Lara's personal rule on things she encounters: If I can't take it, then I should shoot it.
Saturday Already?
You can deal with the mummies or not, it's up to you. Remember, only explosive ammunition can destroy them. Either way, the purpose of shooting that star will be apparent if you take a jump into the laver in the middle of the room below. Yeah, it's not bath day yet, but that's not what you're jumping into the laver for.
Pitfall
From this point forward, the Menkaure's Pyramid will remind you a lot of a really old video game. Okay, the deal is if you try to cross the pit on foot, you're going to get spiked, so your only choice is the rope. Once on the other side there are a couple of mummies that you can deal with or avoid, but we recommend that you deal with them, otherwise they'll haunt you.
Donkey Kong Jr.
Okay, more ropes and pits, but this time, the only difference is that there's two ropes. There's a pit on the right and one on the left. You can't get anywhere if you don't go right first, so you might as well save yourself some swinging. The easiest way to line up the swinging is to line up the ropes before Lara takes the jump to reach the first one. There's a lever that needs pulling, and then it's back across the pit.
Steal the Bacon
Use the same technique to cross the other pit, and you'll find the trapdoor that is opened by the lever you just pulled. Once inside, you'll find a guard. It's mean and it shoots stuff at you. You can just about dodge all the bolts if you jump around like crazy. When you're done with the guard, you can pry the thing it was guarding off the far wall.
Backtrack
Now that you've got the first shaft key, you have to make your way back, practically all the way back to the beginning, to the wide stairway that lead down into this pyramid. There you'll find the secret passage that you just opened when you got the key.
On Your Knees
Down the shaft behind the wall you opened you'll find a crawlspace. Keep crawling even when you're past the crawlspace to avoid getting cut in two. Beyond the tunnel with the blades, you'll find a dark dead-end. There's a trapdoor in the ceiling that's hard to see.
Double-Teamed
When you exit the trapdoor you will almost immediately be double-teamed by a pair of giant scorpions. Whatever you choose to do, remember this: They can't get you when you're in the tunnel below the trapdoor. When they're dead, you can explore and find that you're in a different part of a familar place outside the pyramid. Don't waste a lot of time wandering around. There's a panel to push on the side of one of the small pyramids. Once you do that you'll have to deal with another scorpion. Keep the tip we gave you at the beginning of this hint in mind.
More of the Same
When the top of the small pyramid flips over and drops inside, you should know what you need to do. It's more pyramid climbing for you. When you reach the top, don't take a blind leap. Notice there's a ladder on the wall in the shaft.
Progress Hindered
Okay, there's a series of spiked pits an swinging blades. It's all just a matter of timing, but soon you are faced with a decision. The overhead bars or another pit. Well the pits are placed to hinder progress, and the overhead bars aren't much of a challenge at all, right? Of course you'll have to cross the pit and cross it coming back.
Funnel Fun
Beyond the gate you just opened is a ramp, a spiked pit, and a bunch of ramps that form a sort of funnel. Giving you the lay of the land should be enough. You do the rest of the math. Once you've dropped into the hole in the center of the funnel, you'll find yourself in familar territory. Since you've already explored that area before, you should just head for the surface.
